Papop won grant to produce bio-graphene and bio-nanotube

in pilot scale

Papop, the leading green technology provider in Thailand, set off another remarkable achievement as it won a grant from National Innovation Agency (NIA) titled “Production of Bio-graphene and Bio-Carbon Nanotube as Raw Materials for Prototype Lithium Ion Battery”. This is a part of Thematic Innovation 2023 provided by the agency.

Bio-graphene and bio-carbon nanotube (CNT) are 2 unique wonder materials of modern science comprised of only carbon atom. They are considered to be 2 and 1 dimensional, respectively. They possess several amazing properties. Graphene has honeycomb like structure with only 1 atom thickness and have much higher electricity conductivity than copper. It is 100 times stronger than steel with the density of only 0.77 mg per sq meter. Graphene can be applied to various industries such as panel display, circuit board, solar cells, battery, composite materials and medical materials.

CNT structure, on the other hand, is a tube like material with diameters in nano meters. It can have only single-walled or multi-walled. It contains only carbon atom and can be applied for various applications. For example, CNT can enhance strength of composite materials or increase power density of an electrode. Besides, it can be added as an additive in battery and capacitor.

Mr. Likit Nimtrakul, Chief Executive Officer of Papop, stated that “We (Papop) expresses our sincere gratitude to NIA for this project. We have done our research in the laboratory scale for the past 2 years in collaboration with National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and achieved successful outcomes. This grant from NIA will be a stepping stone for us to build a better and bigger reactor with higher efficiency. We are confident of succeeding in the project. And if we do so, it will be remarkable innovation for biogas industry in Thailand and the world.”

Apipong Lamsam, Managing Director of Papop, also stressed that “This project will lead Papop into nano technology and battery industry by 2025. With this cutting edge innovation, Papop can produce nano materials from any biogas plant in the world. Furthermore, the project is also considered as a carbon capture and storage (CCS) in itself. This will be a significant turning point for Papop and the biogas industry.
